Updated Biography
They might sound like a seventies cop show but Mako & The Hawk are always on the cut, producing and spinning floor-filling dirty funk and soul, old school hip-hop, reggae and party breaks.
Since forming in 2009 the pair have had vinyl and digital releases on Breakbeat Paradise, Freestyle Records, Funk Blasters and Tour of Booty, garnered frequent radio plays on Craig Charles' BBC Radio 6 Funk And Soul Show, supported the likes of Jstar and The Bongolian and held down a never-less-than-packed seven year long residency at Mr Wolf's in central Bristol.
The Hawk is bassist for mod-funk legends and BBC Radio 2 darlings Big Boss Man, while Mako also produces as one half of Mako & Mr Bristow and is the long-running editor of music site
This autumn will finally see the long-awaited vinyl seven inch release of their throwback boom-bap double A-side featuring rapper Chima Anya on beats created from never-previously-sampled early 70s Stateside funky soul.
It goes without saying that Mako & The Hawk need no excuse to get on the wheels of steel but they are also taking DJ bookings now.

July 2013 Review:
Remember a time when samples were king and production was fat? Allow Mako & The Hawk to take you back as Breakbeat Paradise Recordings proudly welcome the UK production duo to the label for a four-track EP of b-boy-friendly hip-hop bangers.

The pair have been building a reputation as producers since 2009, gaining numerous radio plays for their funk, soul, hip-hop and reggae remixes and edits on, among others, Craig CharlesBBC Radio 6 Funk & Soul Show. They released a joint EP with Morlack on his Funk Blasters label last year, and recently set up their own Tour Of Booty label to release their T Bird & The Breaks remix. Now, finally, Mako & The Hawk drop a massive vinyl debut on which their ear for old school production values – the Party Goin’ On EP where the party is most definitely at. Don’t sleep! Review:
It ain’t final til it’s vinyl! Damn straight and here’s Mako & The Hawk on wax at last – twelve black inches of it – as the slackest duo on the party breaks scene get their shit together in time for the summer party season. The Party Goin’ On EP is the latest from the mighty Breakbeat Paradise Recordings, then. The action kicks off with the title track – an epic Wiseguys-ish b-boy breaks banger and three slabs of old school hip-hop, boom-bap booty that’ll rock a house party at the drop of a hat. Or venues of considerably larger size. Players below plus suitably old school cut n paste video courtesy of DJ Tanner.
(Out 18 July at Juno, 22 July everywhere else on Breakbeat Paradise Recordings):

“Party Going On is an ANTHEM!!!!! Please let me know when it is cool for it to be played on the show as it would suit perfectly! It is one of those tunes that within 5 seconds you are going fuck me that is HUGE!!!!!!”
(Simon Hodges, Prod. Craig Charles BBC Radio 6 Funk & Soul Show)
“It rocks! What else you got hidden?”
(Slim, Ghetto Funk/ Good Groove)

The "I Gets My Boogie On" remix reaches No.4 in Juno's Hip Hop Sales charts. Radio airplay includes Craig Charles' Funk and Soul Show on BBC 6 Music, Popcorner on Rai Radio 2 (Italy) and Fresh From The Sewer show on KaneFM.
(PRESS RELEASE): Ladies and gentleman, fetch your dancing shoes – it’s the brand-new, debut official remix from dj/ production duo Mako & The Hawk who rework I Gets My Boogie On by Texan funk crew
T Bird & The Breaks on a grand scale. Evoking shades of Coldcut’s version of Eric B & Rakim’s Paid In Full and Primal Scream’s Loaded, the reflective gospel-tinged soul of the original becomes an epic slice of dancefloor gospel-funk driven by a monster old school breakbeat with a single thought in mind…making you get your boogie on. Lordy lord – break me off a piece of that cheese!
