still alive-gawd bless his soul-he’d being dancing to this...” NWN:
“More achingly cool as the years pass.” Hi-Fi Choice: 4/5 “the Sergeant
Pepper of Boogaloo”, Drummer: 5/5 “It’s one of those albums you wish you
were the drummer”, Scootering: “Essential Listening”
to name a few.
Other news:
BBM’s “Kelvin Stardust” is used in a Renault advert currently showing in
Romania, Poland and Morocco!
The sample from BBM’s “Sea Groove” as used by Thievery Corporation in
their track “the Numbers Game,” is used in the new Apple/Logic recording
software as part of the demonstration.
Paris/New York DJ Ol’ Stark reported that when he spun “Sea Groove” at a
prestigious fashion event last autumn in New York the dance-floor was
filled with the world’s most famous Super-models – all getting down to
the M4 corridor beat. Apparently this track is so popular that the
A-side of his copy has worn out and he has to play the B-side version.
Spring/Summer 2009:
The long
awaited new LP/CD/d-download from “Cult” Hammond-Punk/Funk turkeys Big
Boss Man, “Beat Breakfast” is set for release in the UK in
August/September, then in Europe shortly after.
Having finally got over their collective hangover from their mini-tour
of Tinkoff Brewery music venues in Russia, the guys set about recording
their third disc for Blow Up Records - a breakfast based
Hammond-Bongo-Fuzz freak-out.
The whole LP was initially recorded in the band’s own rickety 8-track
analogue “Ramshackle Studios” then taken lock, stock and barrel to Nick
Terry (Klaxons, Libertines etc) to produce and mix, then finally to John
Davis at Metropolis Studios to master – his other clients at the time
included U2’s the Edge who apparently “quite liked it” but thought it
would benefit from a few more effects.
As
usual the band use a load of old weird and unnecessary gear; head
honcho Nass (a.k.a the Bongolian) plays mini-VIP, Farfisa and Hammond
organs, Wurlitzer piano and moog synths along to a driving bongo and
fuzz beat provided by bass man “the Hawk” and guitarist Trev. The band
creates a spaced-out selection of prime 60’s inspired dance floor
tracks: Northern Soul vibes with “Black Eye”, garage sounds with “the
Bloater,” Boogaloo with “Pies and Pastiche” even samba with “Full
Brazilian” to highlight a few.
September 2008:
After having to cancel July & August’s UK and France gigs, due
to Trev fracturing his wrist (tit),
BBM return to Spain with
a mini tour. Starting with the Savoy Club in Gijon taking in the
Floorstompers 60’s weekend in Pontevedra, Galicia on 1st
November, the gigs continue through to The Purple Weekend prentaction in
Leon and finishing in Castellon. Details to follow.
“Record Company legal delays” have set back the release of BBMIII,
it’s definitely set for release this millennium, however the guy’s
music crops up in various unusual places; on Dutch TV’s “DJ Git Hyper
presents music from RAYMANN is LAAT!!!” and it’s related CD – keep it
cult! And hip US Electronica exponents “Thievery Corporation” continue
their interest in BBM using the break from “Sea Groove” in their
upcoming track “the numbers game”.
31st March 2008:
After a couple of gigs in Veinna and Modena, Big Boss Man play a string
of dates in the UK, so far confirmed is 31/05/8 at the Yardbird,
Birmingham, with Bristol and others set to follow.
Big Boss Man III, the new LP is all mixed (by Nick Terry of Ian Brown
and Klaxons fame) bar one track; a soul floor shaker collabaration with
Dean Parrish (Hopefully!)
25th October 2007:

released next month on Hamburg's Legre Records - along with a whole host
of groovy acts. Their track is "the Hawk".

a set of previously unheard tunes.
